Step 2: Call Your State Representatives and Senators

Here’s a script you can use during your call:

“Hello, my name is [Your First Name]. I’m calling to urge your immediate action regarding the humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Rwandan government is actively supporting the M23 rebel group, which has seized control of key cities like Goma and Bukavu. Since January, this conflict has resulted in over 7,000 deaths and displaced more than 50,000 civilians. Recently, at least 130 patients were abducted from hospitals. This Rwandan-backed M23 offensive is a clear violation of Congolese sovereignty and human rights.

In 2013, the U.S. successfully pressured Rwanda by threatening to suspend foreign aid, which forced the M23 to retreat. I urge you to advocate for similar measures today—impose sanctions on Rwanda or suspend aid until they stop supporting the M23.

These actions can save lives and help restore peace in the region. Please act now to stop the violence and support justice. Thank you for your time and leadership.”
